About

Don Wilson

About the candidate:

Born and raised in Lake County Illinois, Don lived with his grandparents until his grandfather Art Sanchez passed away in 1980.  He then moved into the Hickory Manor Apartments (government assisted housing) with his mother and step-father from fourth grade to his senior year.  At seventeen, Don was abandoned by his parents and stayed in the apartment until the electricity was shut off.

Ten years later, he went back to his grandparents former house, which was not for sale, and asked to buy his childhood home where he now resides.  Don has been married to his wife for over 18 years and has two daughters who are members of the National Honor Society in the Gurnee school system.

For over 20 years, he has worked as a radio broadcaster at 95 WIIL Rock, 99 WMYX, 102.3 WXLC and AM 1220 WKRS.  In 1998 Don founded Fun Times DJ which has now performed at over a thousand events including weddings, graduations, and company parties.  Mr. Wilson served four years as a member of the Village of Gurnee’s Zoning Board of Appeals.

Most recently he won his first election in 2013 as a Village of Gurnee Trustee, having gained the endorsement of the Daily Herald.
